Professional Dog Grooming is a rapidly expanding industry offering a positive career pathway for starting your own business or seeking employment.

We run a number of courses suitable from beginner level to experienced groomers wishing to improve their techniques or to gain expertise in grooming specialist breeds.

An Introduction to Dog Grooming course 

Our 12 day Introduction to Dog Grooming course will enable students to cover the basics of grooming.  It will involve the practical skills required for beginners wishing to pursue a career in dog grooming. During the course you will gain the knowledge and understanding to complete the grooming process from start to finish including styling, finishing and different grooming techniques on the most popular breeds.

Pre-Requisites: No experience in grooming necessary. All students should be physically fit as dog grooming involves long periods of standing and some heavy lifting. We recommend students should be up to date with there tetanus prior to commencing the course. Course duration 12 days.  We try to be as flexible as possible to fit around your schedule.

This course is practical based with one tutor and assistant tutor to a maximum of 4 candidates to ensure value and quality assurance. We provide a safe and comfortable learning environment allowing students to build their confidence and expertise.

  • Preparing dogs for styling
  • Nail clipping
  • Ear plucking
  • Clipping to breed standard & owner specification.
  • Correct handling techniques

Taster Day - No grooming experience required.
A great way of seeing if dog grooming is for you. The Taster Day begins with the tutor demonstrating how to groom a dog in full. The student will then perform a full groom on one of our real life model dogs whilst the tutor observes and offers guidance if needed. Student receives a complimentary Grooming Information Pack.

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants (7763-02)

Course Content

Candidates must undertake assessments for all mandatory units plus one optional unit


  1. Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  2. Bathe and clean dogs
  3. Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  4. Control and restrain animals
  5. Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  6. Basic trimming of a dogs coat


  1. Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment
  2. Welcome, receive and care for visitors.

The qualification is assessed on evidence resulting from practical assessments, written short - answer assessments and an online examination. 

Practical Assessment, you must groom a number of dogs from different categories within strict time constraints in order to pass the exam. For this reason we advise that you should have grooming experience prior to the course to meet the criteria.

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming (7863-03)

Designed for students who wish to become Professional Dog Groomers with a Level 3 Awarding Body Qualification. 

We can arrange flexible start and completion dates through-out the year to fit in with your existing commitments. 

We aim to provide one to one tuition so learners can access a high standard of tuition with maximum hands on experience 

Candidates who have not completed their Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant Qualification (7763-02) will have the option to complete this qualification prior to starting the Level 3 or can study for the combined Level 2 and Level 3 course. Please contact us for further details.

Course content 30 days practical salon training, plus 8 days distance learning with study notes and worksheets provided. You have 3 years to complete this qualification and cover the required 400 Guided Learning Hours

030 Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming – Theory exam  

This exam is held twice a year in June and November at an external site and you will be given a choice of which month you want to sit it following completion of the practical and theory assessments.

Practical Assessments 

1: Risk assessment, 

2. Client consultation and style a wool mix coat 3: Health check and hand strip a dog 4: Style a drop coat and maintaining equipment 5: Style a dog to breed standard and carry out a health check

6. First aid procedure for cut pad

Written assignments and worksheets will be provided to help you research and revise for the theory side of the qualification. These are to be completed both on-site and as part of home study

Open College Network (OCN) West Midlands Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming - 603/0891/6

The Open College Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming was launched in January 2017 by the Open College Network West Midlands.  This new qualification was introduced as an alternative route to City & Guilds.

The OCN Qualification is the same level as the full Level 3 Diploma for City & Guilds and both are regulated by Ofqual and the only Dog Grooming qualifications on the National Educational Framework.

There are no formal examinations involved and assignments and worksheets can be completed in the classroom or by distance learning.  You have 3 years to complete this qualification and cover the required 383 Guided Learning Hours (GLH)

OCN Canine First Aid

This is a level 3 accredited qualification useful to both professional dog groomers and dog owners alike. A combination of both theory and practical work. This course covers the following:

  • Resuscitation, CPR and recovery position
  • Bandaging
  • Fractures
  • haemorrhaging

The cost of this course is £99; this includes the cost of OCN registration, course materials and certificate.
